Steatite Ceramic is a special ceramic made mainly from natural talc (3MgO · 4SiO₂ · H₂O), which has the characteristics of low dielectric loss, excellent high-frequency insulation, and good processability. It has unique advantages in the fields of electronics, electrical appliances, and daily necessities.


1. Regarding Steatite Ceramic

Steatite Ceramic are functional ceramics made by forming talc powder and low-temperature sintering (1100-1300 ℃), and their core characteristics include:

✔  Low dielectric constant (ε=6-7), suitable for high-frequency circuits

✔  Can be machined and drilled/cut with ordinary metal tools

✔  Natural white, no need to add coloring agents

✔  Low cost and abundant raw material reserves


2. Performance characteristics of Steatite Ceramic

(1) Mechanical performance

Hardness: Mohs hardness 4-5 (lower than Al₂O3, but better machinability)

Bending strength: 80-120MPa (can be increased to 150MPa through fiber reinforcement)

(2) Thermal and Chemical Properties

Temperature resistance: 800 ℃ (long-term), up to 1000 ℃ in the short term

Corrosion resistance: resistant to weak acids and bases, but not to hydrofluoric acid

Thermal expansion coefficient: 8 × 10 ⁻⁶/° C (compatible with certain metals)

Density: 2.6-2.8g/cm ³ (30% lighter than alumina)

3. Typical applications of Steatite Ceramic

(1) Electronic appliances

High frequency insulation components: radar antenna cover, 5G base station insulator

Machinable electrode: spark plug insulator (can be threaded)

Electronic packaging: low dielectric loss circuit substrate

(2) Industry and Life

Arc resistant components: switch arc extinguishing chamber, fuse tube

Daily necessities: cosmetic cans, heat-resistant tableware (non-toxic)

(3) Special purpose

Imitation jade crafts: natural whiteness+semi transparent texture

Laboratory equipment: Burning plate under acidic and alkaline environment


4. Future development direction

Nano talc composite material: enhances strength to 200MPa

3D printing technology: rapid prototyping of complex structured insulation components

Environmental modification: lead-free glaze coating (compliant with RoHS)
